A lot of the cast in the movie was in the original stage production
Tim Curry as Dr. Frank N. Furter, Richard O'Brien as Riff Raff, Patricia Quinn as Magenta and Nell Campbell as Columbia were all playing the same parts as they did in the stage production.
They actually filmed it in an old castle called Oakley Court
Apparently it was freezing inside and there were no working toilets in the whole building. It was so chilly that Susan Sarandon actually caught pneumonia during production. Apparently she refused treatment even though she had a super high fever after filming the pool scene.

Mick Jagger wanted to play Dr. Frank N. Furter
Richard O'Brien insisted that Curry keep his role. Another actor almost cast in the movie was Steve Martin in the role of Brad.

For the first few shows Curry played the character with w German accent but when he heard a particularly posh woman on the bus he realized that "Yes, he should sound like the Queen."
