We were all under the impression that the world would end at the turn of the century. Luckily it didn’t, or else we would’ve missed all these great films.
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
The first movie of the Harry Potter franchise was a huge box office success, generating almost one billion dollars worldwide! This fantasy, action story is packed with compelling characters and an exciting storyline.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Although it’s a remake of the beloved Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971), it’s arguably the better one. A fantasy like this requires quality effects that were not able to be achieved in the 70s. Also, Johnny Depp’s acting was on point.
Requiem for a Dream
It’s by far one of the best psychological dramas ever made. It follows the lives of four people who are addicted to four different drugs. The acting will blow you away.
Catch Me If You Can
Leonardo Di Caprio’s role as Frank Abagnale was immaculate. Probably the most interesting part about this movie is that it’s based on a true story. Abagnale conned millions of dollars by posing as a Pan American World Airways pilot, a doctor, and a parish prosecutor. He eventually got caught, but he was so good that the FBI asked for his help to catch other check forgers.
The Matrix Reloaded
This science fiction action film, which is the sequel to The Matrix, will always be at the top of any science fiction movie list.
No movie list is complete without a superhero film. This movie’s mix of action, science fiction, romance, and comedy appeals to every demographic.
Not everyone is crazy about animated films, but this one is an exception. It received two Academy Awards and became the first animated film to win the prestigious Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation.
These next ones are on the top of our list.
This has to be director Roman Polanski’s movie masterpiece. It’s based on the real story of Polish-Jewish pianist and composer Wladyslaw Szpilman. The movie is heartbreaking and extraordinary.
This movie is “so fetch.” We’re still making Mean Girls references to this day. It’s a teenage chick-flick comedy loved by any gender.
A Beautiful Mind
A Beautiful Mind depicts the life of John Nash, a Nobel Laureate in Economics. It’s based on the book, which won the Pulitzer Prize in 1998. It also won four Academy Awards. You get the point, the movie is pretty good.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
Based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic fantasy adventure, this movie will transport you to another world. It’s filled with complex characters and a fast-paced storyline.
Kill Bill V.1
Quentin Tarantino gives us a riveting crime story with some great sword fighting scenes. It’s about a former assassin, known as The Bride, who wakes from a coma and is filled with a raging desire to kill those who harmed her while she was pregnant on her wedding day.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
A man discovers that his girlfriend’s memory of their relationship has been erased. Now he wants his own memories to also disappear, and so the love story begins….
If you’ve watched this one as a kid or with your kids, it’s hard to hate. We all secretly wish we were spies and could save the world.
To survive or not to survive, that is the question. We all joke about being stranded on a tropical, deserted island. It may be all right for a few days, but what about four years?!
