10 Facts About 'American Pie' That Feel Like Warm, Apple Pie

Do you remember the first time you saw American Pie? I do, and it was one of my favorite movies when I was coming of age and making my way through high school. It has been nearly 20 years since the first movie made its debut in theaters, and it spawned numerous sequels and spin-offs, and even added to the pop-culture reference database of every high school kid in America, even if they don't realize it.

Even if you were a huge fan of the movie series, you likely didn't know these 10 behind-the-scenes facts about the making of the first movie.

1. The title was changed a couple of times.

When the script was originally accepted it had yet to be officially named. The first real name the studio attempted to go with was Great Falls, but it didn't test very well. Eventually the movie was dubbed American Pie and the rest is history.

2. Sean William Scott's salary was the biggest joke of the entire film.

Scott, who played the iconic role of Steve Stifler, was only paid a $8,000 for his role in the first movie. By the time American Wedding came about he was earning $15 million for the follow up.

3. Remember the beer scene that almost made you vomit? Well it was just as bad for Scott during production.

There is an infamous scene is American Pie where Stifler drinks beer that has been mixed with Kevin's bodily fluids. It is nasty on so many levels. During production, the beer was actually mixed with egg whites which forced Scott to yak on multiple occasions.

4. American Pie didn't coin the term MILF, but they sure changed it.

Before the movie, the term MILF was actually used by a terrorist group Moro Islamic Liberation Front as their acronym. They still use it today, but our guess is that it just doesn't pack the punch that it used to.

5. Eugene Levy added his own brand of comedy to the movie.

Levy was given free-reign to improvise as much as he wanted during filming and he took full advantage of it. During the scene where he is looking through adult magazine with Jim, the line about a "giant orgy" was completely improvised and it made actor Jason Biggs laugh on film.

6. The infamous apple pie.

The pie that Jim made love to on his parent's kitchen counter was actually store bought from a Costco in Long Beach, California.

7. John Cho was the oldest "teenage" actor on set.

John Cho who has had a recurring role in the American Pie series was actually the oldest actor portraying a teenager during the first movie. He was actually 26 years old during the filming of American Pie.

8. Finch's scooter breaking down wasn't planned.

At one point in the movie, Finch is leaving the diner on his scooter when it suddenly breaks down. It wasn't supposed to do that, nor was it planned, but it worked out so well that it was kept in the final cut of the movie.

9. One time at band camp...

That line became one of the iconic moments from the first movie. Even though Alison Hannigan didn't play the flute in real life, she was and is quite the clarinet player.

10. Oz did have a middle name.

It was never revealed during the movies at any point, but it turns out that Oz's middle name is actually Dieter. Can't imagine why they chose to cut that particular piece of information out of the film.
