Tom Hanks is basically America’s Sweetheart. I know that title is usually reserved for whatever young ingenue is starting to gain popularity in Hollywood, but let’s be honest here, no one is more beloved than the one and only Mr. Tom Hanks.
He’s given us some of the most amazing performances of any actor, with his films ranging from emotional heavy-hitters like Forrest Gump to iconic comedies like Big.
Hanks is one of those actors that is impossible to dislike and it seems like every time we hear more from him, we all love him a bit more.
Right now, the actor has a few projects on the schedule, but there’s one that has all of us 90s kids on high alert. Toy Story 4 is set to be released June 21st, 2019, and while we are so excited to see what’s in store, we can’t help but be a little bit nervous.
Just a few months ago, fellow Toy Story star Tim Allen revealed that this fourth installment is “the best of the bunch.”
Not only that, but it’s supposed to be “terrifically emotional.” More emotional than Toy Story 3? It can’t possibly be, right? Wrong.
Apparently it’s so emotional that Allen couldn’t even get through his first attempt at recording his lines for the last scene. Uh oh… Here’s what he said while on The Talk.
“I gotta resist getting emotional. I don’t want to give it away, but this is an incredibly great story. It is so emotional, it’s so funny, it’s so big, the idea they’ve come up with, I’m startled.
I couldn’t even get through the last scene. I would love to be a Washington leaker. I just can’t do it. I can’t give any more away. They’ve got great characters but a couple of scenes toward the end were really hard to get through.”
That’s not all. Hanks actually revealed a little bit more, not about the storyline, but about the process that he had to go through to actually be able to deliver his lines.
It seems like Allen wasn’t the only one having a hard time, Hanks actually had to turn away and pretend like he was alone to be able to do it.
“It was the first time that we were going to be recording the end of the movie, and Toy Story is going to have an impactful ending.
The way you record Toy Story, you’re in a room with the team that has created it. When I went in for my last day of recording, I wanted to have my back to them, because usually you’re facing [the director] so he can look right up and you can talk about it.
But I didn’t want to see them and pretend they couldn’t see me. When I realized what they were going for, I realized, ‘Oh, this is a moment in history’.”
We won’t know what happens in that last scene until June 21st, 2019, but you can bet that we’ll all be anxiously awaiting the fate of all of our favorite toys until then.
