Danny DeVito Is Probably The Nicest Person In Hollywood And You Need To Know Why

TriStar Pictures / Universal

There are some very good people in the world, but often times we don't realize just how generous and kind some celebrities can be. Danny DeVito may be one of America's favorite actors, but he is also happens to be one of the best people.

TriStar Pictures

Sure, he is super talented, but he is a lot more than that. Whether it is his costars or even strangers that he doesn't know, there are many stories that prove he is an absolute gem and we are lucky to have him.

How He Helped Mara Wilson on the set of Matilda

Mara Wilson was cast as Matilda when she was just a child. Even though DeVito played her horrible father, his real persona was a lot more comforting and kind.

TriStar Pictures

Wilson explained that when they were filming the movie her mother was diagnosed with cancer. DeVito and his wife, Rhea Perlman, felt stepped up to help out with the young actress. Wilson said, "I was eight years old. It was very hard... and they were very nice. While my mom was sick and in the hospital, they would invite me over and take care of me and get my mind off things. I felt very familial."

This family wasn't supposed to be a supportive environment on film, but in reality this little group of people came together when one of them was experiencing a real life traumatic experience.

It wasn't just celebrities that DeVito helped, he even made a huge impact on the life of some complete strangers...

While Danny DeVito's celebrtity encounters are impressive, it's how he treats those of us that aren't famous that is truly impressive. The actor doesn't seem to care that he is one of the biggest stars in the world, he still has time for everyone.

One Reddit user shared their experience online and explained how Danny DeVito actually managed to impact their life in a really real way when they were only 13-years-old.

Reddit user MisterSeeDee shared his story and it was so powerful that DeVito's good friend Arnold Schwarzenegger even commented!

Universal Pictures

He explained how he attended a school that was horrible and full of abusive teachers. He said that "The experiences there seriously affected me and I was asking for help the entire time but I was never believed, which made me feel exceptionally isolated and alone. I was being abused but my own family wouldn’t take my word on it."

While his own family wouldn't listen, the actor did, even though the boy didn't notice who he was. On a ski vacation, the 13-year-old boy ran into a man on the slopes, but his face was wrapped in a scarf.

"I met a strangely familiar sounding man with a scarf over his face. He saw that I was miserable and asked me what was wrong." This was all it took for this young boy to open up. No one had cared before but now that someone was being considerate he felt he could tell his story.

"I didn’t have any trouble opening up about my problems at thirteen. I would blab on and on about them (the problem is that nobody really cared). So I unloaded on this poor guy."

Before he had met this stranger on the hill he had started to have suicidal thoughts, saying that he was "planning how I could end my life without anybody discovering me or having to deal with the shame of a failed attempt."

The man in the scarf revealed that he had gone through a similar experience, "He told me that he had a very similar experience when he was younger, that he had gone to a very strict Catholic boarding school. He shared some experiences with me. He understood what I was going through completely. He told me that it would pass; that one day I would be an adult and all of these things would seem very far away."

The boy only realized who the man in the scarf was after DeVito's wife Rhea Perlman, "the girl from Cheers", came up to them both. He then was able to place the voice and ever since he has felt like he wanted to thank DeVito for what he did.

TriStar Pictures

In an attempt to reach out to Devito to offer his thanks, he posted his message. Against all odds, the message actually reached someone very close to the actor, his good friend and former co-star Arnold Schwarzenegger!

Universal Pictures

Schwarzenegger responded to the message by saying "What an incredible story. Thank you for sharing. You're right - Danny is a good man (one of the best), and I know he will love to hear that some of his advice helped you become a great man, although I can tell you always had it in you. I'm going to send this to him so he can see it."

Hopefully DeVito will hear this story and realize just how much of an impact he had on this kid's life!
