David Spade Paid Tribute To Best Friend Chris Farley On The 20th Anniversary Of His Death

Actor and comedian David Spade has honored his late best friend Chris Farley on the 20th anniversary of his death.

Farley was 33-years-old when he passed away on December 18, 1997, following a drug overdose at his Chicago apartment.

Spade, 53, posted a picture of Farley to both Instagram and Twitter with the caption, "20 years ago today."

The pair were inseparable in the 90s, having co-starred on variety show Saturday Night Live (SNL), and comedies Tommy Boy and Black Sheep.

In 2015, Spade took to Instagram to commemorate his relationship with Farley during the 20th anniversary of Tommy Boy‘s release.

He posted a picture of the movie poster and wrote: "I was very lucky to be in this movie with one of the all-time funniest mother f***, the late, great Chris Farley. It’s hard to read but on the poster it says, 'David let’s stick together!' Signed by Chris."

“We gave each other autographed posters as a joke back then,” Spade continued. “Now I see it in my office and skim over it because if I think about that for more than 5 seconds I’ll start bawling. Like now. As Chris would say, what a p****. #RIP," Spade added.

However, despite their close bond, Spade did not attend Farley's funeral.

The pair became instant friends when they met on SNL, with Spade labeling Farley as a sweetheart he'd love to tease.

"We met in the hotel on his first day, and he was like, 'How are you? Chris Farley!" Spade told TODAY. "He was so funny and nice right away."

"I just made fun of him," Spade added. "We always laughed. We were like an old married couple - except we slept in the same bed."

Due to their close friendship, the public was shocked when Spade didn't pay his final respects to his best friend.

However, in a 2014 Reddit "Ask Me Anything" session, Spade finally discussed why he was a no-show.

"I think about him all the time," he wrote. "We had such a good time for so long and we were crammed together for so long that we did have our squabbles, but I think people misunderstood me not going to that funeral. It was nothing about that. It was just too... emotional and I wouldn't be able to handle it."

Spade still talks about Farley in public, and shares stories of their mishaps that still make us laugh today.
