Exciting News For 'Mary Poppins' Fans, The Sequel Is Coming Out Sooner Than Expected

Disney

While a lot of reboots and sequels made years after the original can end up getting a lot of criticism, there are a lot of fans of Mary Poppins who are genuinely excited about this new version.

Disney's Mary Poppins Returns has been in the works for quite a while now. It has been 54 years since the original came out, making it the longest gap between the original and a sequel.

Originally, Disney had intended on releasing the sequel on Christmas 2018, but they've just announced that the release date has been moved up a full week!

Disney

Mary Poppins Returns will now come out on December 19th, 2018.

Deadline reports that Disney has actually moved a bunch of different movies in their schedule around, but the Mary Poppins move means that none of us need to abandon our families on Christmas to go see it. And yes, a lot of us would have definitely considered doing exactly that.

The movie looks and sounds as though it's going to be amazing. First of all, we have Emily Blunt stepping in to fill the role of Mary Poppins. While no one could ever replace Julie Andrews, I'm absolutely certain that Blunt is going to nail it.

Disney

Second, Lin-Mannuel Miranda is playing a lamplighter named Jack who was a former apprentice of Bert (Dick Van Dyke). Miranda's career has really taken off in the last few years with the success of Hamilton and all of his Oscar nomination, and his addition to the cast was truly perfect.

Disney

But the amazing cast doesn't end there. We've also got Meryl Streep playing Mary's eccentric cousin named Topsy Turvy-Poppins, we've got Angela Landsbury as "The Balloon Lady," Colin Firth as the current president of Fidelity Fiduciary Bank, and Julie Walters as the Banks' housekeeper.

Disney

The plot picks up with Jane and Michael Banks as adults living in Depression-era London. Michael still lives in the house on Cherry Tree Lane with his three children, Annabel, John, and George.

Disney

Mary comes back into the Banks family life after the death of Michael's wife, but with the help of Jack and Topsy, they try to bring some joy back to the Banks children.

Disney

The trailer makes the movie look like a true spectacle, and Blunt looks like she has Poppins' attitude practically perfect in every way.

Check out the teaser trailer and see if you agree.

Personally, I'm thrilled the movie is coming out a week earlier. It just means I can see it even sooner than I expected!

Are you excited to go see it?

The original will always have a big place in all of our hearts, and it's probably due to the fact that they had so much fun behind the scenes.

As for the truth about Bert and Mary's relationship, fans have some theories that definitely have some merit.

A Behind-The-Scenes Look At The New Aladdin Is Here And At Least One Of Our Wishes Was Granted

We've been waiting patiently, okay mostly patiently, since Disney announced that Aladdin was being remade. The cartoon remains one of the most iconic movies of all time, and the fact that they were going to try and bring it to life with real humans instead of the animated versions was kind of concerning. We saw the first trailer a while ago, but the only character we actually saw up close was Aladdin himself. We didn't see how the Genie looked, or Jasmine, or any of the other characters. But now, Entertainment Weekly has given us all the first look at

Tim Allen Reveals The Original Plan For 'The Santa Clause' Was Way Too Dark For Disney

We've all seen The Santa Clause at least a dozen times, right? It's a Christmas classic and ever since it was released, it has become a staple in our holiday movie schedule. There's something about the movie that manages to keep that Christmas feeling without being way too over the top or corny. I mean, sure, Tim Allen literally becomes Santa, but somehow it all feels like that's totally plausible. The sequels may not have the same realistic feeling, but the original remains iconic. However, Allen just revealed that the original plan for the movie was a lot darker than
