Chuck Jones Productions worked on the special, a name you might remember from the aforementioned shows and dozens of others!

A full nine years in fact! There had been barely any Chipmunks material since the death of creator Ross Bagdasarian Sr., but interest was rekindled thanks to reruns of the show on Saturday morning TV.

The Chipmunks actually got their start with a Christmas song.

"The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)" was the first song released by Bagdasarian under the "Chipmunks" moniker, after he first introduced the effect for the chorus of his novelty song "Witch Doctor."

A Christmas song that topped the Billboard charts!

It went to No. 1 and ultimately caused its album to go Platinum, and was the last time that a Christmas song hit the No. 1 position.

It gets even more festive from here...

The Chipmunks have recorded SIX Christmas albums.

Yup, six. Christmas With The Chipmunks, Christmas With The Chipmunks 2, A Chipmunk Christmas, A Very Merry Chipmunk, Merry Christmas From The Chipmunks, and a re-release of Christmas With The Chipmunks.

Three of their albums have gone Platinum!

Christmas With The Chipmunks, Chipmunks In Low Places, and Alvin And The Chipmunks: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack have all sold over a million copies!

Santa Claus was voiced by Megatron

Santa Claus in the special is voiced by Frank Welker, best-known as Abu from Aladdin, Fred from Scooby Doo, the Beagle Boys from DuckTales, and of course, Megatron from Transformers.

And Mrs. Claus was Granny from Looney Tunes!

June Foray was an absolutely legendary voice actress who, before passing away in 2017, lent her voice to hundreds of roles, including Granny from Looney Tunes, Jokey Smurf in The Smurfs, Grandmother Fa from Mulan, and both Ma Beagle and Magica De Spell in DuckTales!

It has been parodied a LOT

Most notably on the album Chipmunks Roasting on an Open Fire by Bob Rivers.

And shown up in a lot of movies too!

"The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)" shows up in Rocky IV, Donnie Brasco, Almost Famous and even The Fate Of The Furious!
