You would think being called the "Sexiest Man Alive" is pretty flattering. But for Richard Gere, none of that ever really made sense.

The dreamy actor was given the title of "Sexiest Man Alive" in 1999, but he still doesn't believe that it is particularly true. Gere has said that ''At no time in my life have I ever felt like a sex symbol. It's an illusion."

He did consent to being a part of the article though, so at least he gets that we think he is a total heartthrob. Gere really made a name for himself as one of the Hollywood hunks after he stared in American Gigolo and An Officer and a Gentleman. However, the romantic moments in those movies were really just the beginning.

He later went on to star in one of the most-loved romantic movies of all time, Pretty Woman, and basically solidified his status as one of Hollywood's most handsome actors. He tries to stay humble, but when you get called the "Sexiest Man Alive" when you are 50 years old, you must know you are pretty ridiculously good looking, right?
