13 'Got Milk?' Ads That Will Immediately Make 90s Kids Crave A Cold Glass Of Milk
When were all growing up in the 90s and early 2000s, we remember one very important advertising campaign that seems to take over the world. "Got Milk?" was basically the slogan of our generation, and was honestly the ads were the best indicator of who was the biggest star at any given moment.
Were you even really famous if you didn't have a "Got Milk?" poster? It was strange because it wasn't even a poster for a specific brand, it was just a general awareness campaign that made us all believe that drinking milk was the most important thing ever.
Obviously there are a lot of health benefits to milk, especially given the level of calcium, but the level of effort that they put into these ads seems to be more than any other campaign ever.
I mean, there were a lot of different commercials in our lives, but none seem to stand out quite like the "Got Milk?" ads. Some of us even put the posters on our walls!
You've got to admit, it was a clever plan. Chances are if you were alive in the 90s you'll remember almost all of these posters.
1. Whoopi Goldberg
Whoopi Goldberg was a huge star in the 90s, and her iconic poster talks about the lactose-free options that are available. That way everyone can get all the calcium to make sure they didn't end up with "weak funny bones" according to Whoopi.
2. Hanson
"What do we drink when we write songs? MMMMilk. And you should too."
They go on to say that you need three glasses of milk per day to get enough calcium so you can grow big and strong because "we aren't sure what's getting bigger fast, our new single, or our brother Zac." I guess he was drinking his milk!
3. Sarah Michelle Gellar
"I never get bent out of shape over a few vampires. And with fat free milk on my tray, there's a good chance I never will."
They are obviously trying to get the dieting demographic on board with milk, which can be tricky because of all the calories, but I guess if Sarah Michelle Gellar drinks milk we all should, right?
5. Jonathan Taylor Thomas
"Sure I'm young. But I know a lot about girls. Stuff they don't even know."
Calm down there, bud. I mean, sure 8 out of 10 girls don't get enough calcium and you taught me that, but I know you didn't know that. At least he admits the real reason why he did the ad. "I look older with a mustache."
6. Britney Spears
This nice little Britney ad shows her all grown up, because "15% of your height is added during your teen years and milk can help make the most of it."
But really, I think the thing we need to discuss is those pants. What even are they made out of? Are those studs on leather? How uncomfortable are they?
7. Backstreet Boys
"It takes more than a hit single to reach the top."
Thanks boys, but do you have to look so angry? Milk is a happy thing! A.J.'s JNCO jeans are just so 90s that it almost hurts.
8. Jennifer Love Hewitt
"What does Jennifer Love hate? Osteoporosis."
She apparently drinks fat free milk with every meal, and makes a huge mess of pancakes while she does it.
9. Kermit the Frog
"Milk isn't just for tadpoles."
It's nice to know he always keeps some back at his pad because 3/4 of adults don't get enough milk. Although I don't know that milk is very good for Muppets...
10. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen
"We're not little girls anymore. But, that doesn't mean we've stopped drinking our milk."
They grew up in front of our eyes, but they said they never gave up on milk because 15% of their height was supposed to be added in their teen years. However, given the fact that both of them are around 5'2" now I don't know that this was the best tag to pair with them.
11. Austin Powers
"So I can keep my mojo working overtime. Oh, behave."
Austin Powers was a big deal in the 90s, so it's fair that he would have his own ad. It's exactly as groovy as you want it.
12. Jonathan Lipnicki
"My growing bones and I have four words for moms everywhere: Show me the milk."
Jonathan Lipnicki really got the best deal of all, because chocolate milk is where it's at! The little kid from Jerry Maguire gets to once again show off his adorable little glasses and drink the one beverage we all begged our moms to buy for us.
13. Danny Devito and Rhea Pearlman
The Wormwoods may not be the best people, but apparently they care about your health... Or at least your beauty.
"To us, looks are everything. Obviously. Which is why we eat well and drink so much skim milk."
That's the secret to looking as good as the Wormwoods I guess.
Apparently the campaign worked, because milk sales in California increased, but 2014 the slogan was discontinued and switched to "Milk Life."
To be honest, as far as ads go these Got Milk? ads were probably some of the best, because the ones for sodas were absolutely insane.
Although if we're being fair, basically all commercials were insane in the 90s.
