"Grey's Anatomy" Star Introduces Newborn Son In An Adorable Announcement
This March, Kevin McKidd, most recognizable for his role as Dr. Owen Hunt in Grey's Anatomy since the fifth season, revealed on his personal website that he got married to personal chef Arielle Goldrath.
The notoriously private pair were dating for over a year, but were only able to make their union official after McKidd finalized his divorce from his wife of 17 years, Jane Parker.
The nuptials took place at Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, California, and McKidd wore a traditional green kilt, while Goldrath was a vision in a white fitted lace gown.
The ceremony was officiated by Rabbi Emma Lutz, according to People.
McKidd shared some of the details of their wedding, which incorporated elements that reflected his Scottish roots.
“Close friends and family came together with my Grey’s family to share in our celebration day – an intimate, low key gathering culminating in a Scottish Ceilidh dance," the actor wrote.
While the news of their marriage made many of their fans happy, it was the bombshell he dropped right after that had everyone really excited.
McKidd shared a beautiful photo of him and his new wife walking down the aisle, and revealed that they were expecting a baby.
The 44-year-old actor shared the exciting news in a post titled Very Happy, Very Big News!
“Arielle and I are so happy to announce our marriage and new baby, who is soon to join our growing family,” the star wrote. McKidd added that his son and daughter from his previous marriage, Joseph, 17, and Iona, 15, "are happy for us too and are looking forward to the arrival of their newest sibling!”
"There’s much to be grateful for and we’re thrilled for the adventures 2018 will bring us all!" he concluded his message.
McKidd did not reveal the baby's sex or when it would be arriving, but we had our fingers crossed hoping that he will share photos of the new bundle of joy with us when the time comes.
Two months later, the Trainspotter star announced that he and his wife welcomed their first child together on Mother's Day.
The new dad shared a sweet photo of their newborn son, whom they named Aiden, on Instagram, along with some heartfelt words about Goldrath's new role as a mom.
"On this beautiful Mother’s Day evening… Welcome- little Aiden to our family and to the World!" McKidd captioned the black-and-white photo of wife cuddling the swaddled baby. "Arielle, you’re the most amazing mother and I love you both so much! #happymothersday #forever #weeAiden #Arielle #newlife."
Fans and costars flooded the comment section with congratulatory messages and well-wishes. Among them was McKidd's cast mate Sarah Drew, who plays April Kepner, who took a minute to share a sweet comment.
“I can’t wait to snuggle him again!!! He’s so beautiful!!” she wrote.
Baby Aiden couldn't have come at a better time as Grey's Anatomy just wrapped up its finale.
In early March, the creator of the long-running medical drama, Shonda Rhimes, confirmed that Drew as well as Jessica Capshaw, who portrays Dr. Arizona Robbins, will not be returning after season 14.
“It’s always hard for me to say goodbye to any of my characters,” Rhimes said of the fan-favorite characters. “Both Arizona Robbins and April Kepner are not only beloved but iconic — both the LBGTQ and devout Christian communities are underrepresented on TV. I will be forever grateful to both Jessica and Sarah for bringing these characters to life with such vibrant performance and for inspiring women around the globe. They will always be a part of our Shondaland family.”
Fans weren't the only ones taken aback by this news, it seems like Drew being written off by choice.
“Thank you for all of the love,” she wrote. “I know you’re sad. I’m sad too. I haven’t really had the time to process this information. I’ve been with it for less than 48 hours, so I’m not ready to say my thank yous and give an all encompassing statement about my 9 years here. That will come later. For now, I’d like to say: I love you, and I love April, and her story isn’t over yet."
She continued, "And the really good news (for me, at least) is that I’m here on set shadowing one of my favorite people, Kevin McKidd, with my beloved Grey’s family all this week and next," she continued. "So I get to process all of my feelings surrounded by the community that has nourished and nurtured me for almost a decade. For that, I am grateful.”
Viewers initially speculated that the actresses were being let go after Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith Grey, got a raise. They believed that the network couldn't afford to pay all of their stars as much as they pay her.
However, Pompeo gave a different reason when she appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show shortly after.
"I mean, I’m not involved in these kind of decisions, however, there’s a few problems that you encounter doing a show for 14 seasons," she explained. "One of them is the writers have a really hard time creatively thinking up new stories for all these characters."
So there you have it! Pompeo doesn't have anything to do with the Rhimes's decision to let Drew and Capshaw go. It seemed like it was in the best interest for the remaining seasons to go on without those two characters.
The good news is that for now, many of our favorites, including McKidd, will be back on our screens when the show returns next season.
Congratulations to McKidd and Goldrath on their new addition to the family!
