Tim Allen Reveals What To Expect From 'Toy Story 4' And I Don't Think We're Ready

Every single one of us 90s kids remembers watching Toy Story when we were young and becoming absolutely obsessed.

Do you know how many times I would try to sneak into my own room to try and catch my toys coming to life? An embarrassing number, that's for sure.

There have already been three Toy Story movies, and each and every one of them has been great - particularly the third installment.

I know a lot of people give sequels a lot of flack, but Toy Story 3 had me openly sobbing in a movie theater. Sure, they are animated, but they are able to portray so much emotion that it feels so real, even though we are adults now.

When they announced they were going to make a Toy Story 4, we all seemed to panic. How could it top Toy Story 3? How could it manage to find that same level of emotional connection?

Well, the sequel has had a bit of a tough time behind the scenes, with the writers leaving the film late last year, leading to a major rewrite and the release date getting pushed back a whole year.

Originally Rashida Jones and Will McCormack were writing the script, but they cited "creative differences" and left.

It was Annie Potts, voice of Bo Peep, who revealed that everything was pushed back when the writers left.

“[Toy Story 4] was supposed to come out this year and then they threw out three-quarters of it and rewrote," Potts said. "Usually, it takes – from start to finish – two years. But because they threw most of it in the bin and started over [my time on the project has] been extended a little bit. I’ve done a lot of work on it.”

But luckily, Disney and Pixar have managed to finish up the script and according to another one of the stars, it's going to take it even further.

Tim Allen has starred as Buzz Lightyear since the beginning, and even he was worried how the fourth installment could measure up to the epic third movie, but he claims this new movie will be just as good.

"If it’s anything near the first read through, it is great. Somehow they were able to advance this wonderful story that could have easily ended with No. 3 being the best of the bunch."

He goes on to explain how it is "terrifically emotional," which honestly I don't know that I can handle.

"It’s emotional and funny and exciting and different and took it to a whole new level," Allen said. "It walks the line between comfort — you know what’s going on — and discomfort — wondering what’s gonna happen. It’s terrifically emotional."

But no matter what happens, he's still happy just to be involved. He told Conan O'Brien a few years ago that it's "the most amazing experience of [his] life."

“This is the most amazing experience of my life, number one because Hanks and I have become friends over this thing,” he said. "I really like this character."

Toy Story 4 will be released in June 2019.
