Check Your Basement: These 13 Magic Cards Are Worth A Small Fortune

When Magic: The Gathering hit the scene in 1993, it changed the world of trading cards forever.

Finally, there was a trading card game that older kids weren't embarrassed to be seen playing. Today, 20 million Magic players around the world are still collecting and trading their cards. But even if you've given up on the game, you might want to dig up your old collection.

Certain magic cards are worth a bundle online. We've researched the average prices  for 13 of the most valuable cards (in good condition) on MTGPrices. See if any of these are tucked away in your collection.

13. Imperial Seal - $550

From the Portals set, this card isn't one of the most powerful Black spells, but it's a crucial card for deck-building with that color. It's usually worth a few hundred bucks even in bad shape.

12. Time Vault - $1,100

A card from the very earliest Alpha collection, the powerful effect of this card makes it a collector's item. Despite its huge price tag, this isn't even one of the Alpha set's "Power Nine" cards.

11. The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale - $1,400

Part of the highly collectible, early Legends set, Pendrell Vale is one of the collection's strongest cards. Legends booster packs are considered valuable just because this card could be lurking inside one.

10. Tropical Island - $2,600

Another Alpha card, this powerful Land card is still a must-have for players with Blue/Green decks because it lets them add a land from either color on demand.

9. TimeTwister - $2,700

The first of the "Power Nine" Alpha cards to grace this list, TimeTwister was a powerful card when it was first released. Decades later it can still change the course of a game.

8. Mox Emerald - $2,900

Five "Mox" jewel cards released in the game's earliest set have become collector's items because of the huge Land boost they provide. While the value of each card falls and rises, Emerald is currently the least valuable.

7. Mox Pearl - $2,900

Pearl is usually considered one of the rarer Mox cards because its description - "Mono Artifact" - became obsolete after the game's first two sets.

6. Mox Sapphire - $2,900

Surprise! Another Mox. A few years ago Sapphire was the top dog of the five Mox cards, but it's fallen down the list recently.

Keep reading, because there are some really valuable cards to come...

5. Mox Ruby - $3,400

Dan Frazier, who did the art for all five Mox cards, will add a little value to yours by signing it - it's $2 per signature, but it will be worth it if you can sell one of these bad boys.

4. Mox Jet - $3,500

Rounding out the Mox collection is this Black card, which seems to be more valuable because collectors need it to built a powerful deck of that color. Or maybe just because the art is so cool.

3. Time Walk - $3,900

This Alpha card earned its spot in the "Power Nine" thanks to its punishing effect, and it used to be even tougher. During the game's test phase, the card also said "Target player loses next turn," and players assumed this meant the player lost the game in their next turn.

2. Ancestral Recall - $4,300

It's this simple: drawing cards is one of the most important parts of Magic: The Gathering. A card that lets you draw so many for so little is pretty overpowered. Hence the hefty price.

1. Black Lotus - $110,000-156,000

This card is a victim of its own success. As recently as 2014, good condition cards sold for as little as $10,000. But the attention the card has earned from being featured on "most expensive" lists (like this one, sorry) has inflated the price.

When this collector opened a starter pack and found Black Lotus, it was worth just $27,000. Ironically, the video helped make the card even more valuable.

Still, with all the Magic fanatics out there, there's still a market for this insanely expensive card if you manage to find one. Not bad - you could make a down payment on a house for just a small piece of cardboard.

30 Toys From The Sears Wishbook We All Wanted Under Our Christmas Tree 30 Years Ago

I think we can all agree that one of the best things to do while growing up was digging through the Sears Wishbook to try and make our Christmas lists. It was around this time every year that we started to get really serious about it, even though Christmas was still a ways off. We obviously needed a lot of time to plan out our lists for Santa Claus, and we weren't about to make the same mistake as the year before and forget to send one! The Wishbook was an important part of that and while it may not

10 Weebles Playsets From Our Childhoods We Loved To Watch Wobble

There were always toys when you were a kid that seemed to be more important than the rest. There were some that you couldn't go to bed without, there were others that you spent months begging your parents for, and then there were a few that were just staples, readily available where ever you went. No matter which friends house you were at or doctor's office waiting room you were in, there were some that just seemed to be everywhere. Weebles were one of the toys you would be mostly likely to find anywhere that toys were set up for

Ikea Is Bringing Back The Couch Of Your Nightmares, And People Have A Lot To Say About It

Remember when you were growing up and you'd go hang out in the living room for hours and hours, never leaving your spot on the couch? Well, honestly I can't pretend much has changed, other than the fact that the couch has fewer flowers on it than ever before. Most people stick to a single color now, but back in the day there was apparently nothing more desirable than a good floral pattern. Big flowers, small flowers, pinks ones, or blue, every combination was waiting for you. We've all seen a lot of bad couches in our days, but when

There's Now Only One Blockbuster Left, But It Refuses To Give Up

We've all known for a while that Blockbuster was basically a lost cause. Most Blockbuster locations closed down many years ago, leaving behind their empty buildings that look like they house all the ghosts of the 90s. However there were a few places where Blockbuster Video refused to die. There were six locations remaining in Alaska, and one in Bend, Oregon, but this weekend marks a sad moment. All of the Alaskan Blockbusters have been officially closed. Four had actually been closed earlier in the year, but this weekend the final two locations closed their doors for good. But don't
